Pakistani Suit Fabrics Explained

Pakistani Suit Fabrics Explained

When you read a product description you will see fabric names such as chiffon, organza and raw silk. Here is what they mean in practice.

Chiffon

A light, flowing fabric with a soft drape that moves beautifully. It is popular for shirts, dupattas and sleeves, and it takes embroidery well. It is delicate, so handle it gently.

Organza

Sheer and slightly crisp, organza holds its shape, which makes it ideal for necklines, borders and dupattas with structure. It often carries intricate embellishment.

Raw silk

A textured silk with a subtle sheen and a little body. It is used for trousers, sleeves and panels, and gives an outfit a rich, expensive feel without being shiny.

Net

An open mesh fabric, often heavily embroidered or sequinned. It adds volume and sparkle, and is common on bridal and formal dupattas and overskirts.

Velvet

A soft, dense fabric with a luxurious feel, chosen for winter weddings and formal occasions. It is warm and rich in colour, but heavier than the others.

How to choose

  • Warm weather or a long day: chiffon and lighter fabrics are the most comfortable.
  • Structure and statement: organza and net hold their shape.
  • Winter events: velvet and raw silk keep you warm and look rich.
